BMAT: the results. Finally.

resultsenvelope

Ok, and they’re in…  I was pleased with my overall result – I got 19.3 out of a possible 33.  Average for this year is around 17 I’m led to believe, and a ‘good’ score is 19, so I was pleased.

However, I was really disappointed with my mark in one section.  It was the lowest mark I’d got out of all of the practice papers I did.  I know that each section is taken into account separately, particularly sections 1 and 2, and it was 2 which I did disappointingly in.  I hope that this doesn’t affect my chance of an interview too much, especially since my other sections were above average.

So, the wait continues.  Over 2 months ago I submitted my application, and apart from being asked to fill in more forms (don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind that at all, because it is definitely a positive sign!) I am still no further forward in knowing where I’m going to vet school.  I read something this week saying, ‘oooh I wish I could just fast-forward to offer/rejection day – at least then I’d know!’.  I know the feeling.

A few months ago I think I wrote about some advice someone gave me, which was ‘DON’T STALK THE POSTMAN’.  Well, I haven’t gone quite that far yet.  But I am leaping to the front door within milliseconds of hearing the letterbox.  And checking UCAS obsessively whenever I can.  And my emails.

The excitement is mounting just as much as the nerves.  Just not sure I can stand the wait much longer! :D

BMAT: the sequel sequel

Last night I had the stereotypical pre-results day dreams.  On section one in my dream I achieved 1.9 and was absolutely gutted (results for sections one and two are on a scale of 1-9, with 9 being the best), and relieved to wake up.  The relief was short-lived when I realised I had to then go through the whole anticipation again before getting my real results!

So I get to college, head straight to the exams office, prepare myself, and knock on the door.  Door opens.  I inform them I’m here for my BMAT results.  Ah yes, I’m told, they’ve been expecting me.  ‘The results haven’t arrived yet’.  WHA…!?!!  Gah, all the anticipation for nothing!!   So, three visits between college and school (my lessons are taught at a local school, even though they’re organised through the college), a few phonecalls and lots of jigging up and down later, I’m told they probably won’t be here today.

Consequently I look a bit harrassed and still don’t know what my results are, and won’t until tomorrow at the earliest.  You know what I said about being as cool as a cucumber?  It all goes out of the window when you’re kept hanging for so long!

BMAT: the sequel

I can’t believe it has been nearly a month since the BMAT exam.  And that TOMORROW is results day. 8O

In all fairness actually, I’m relatively calm about results – not because I think I’ve done particularly well, because I still don’t have the foggiest idea of how it went! – but because I am the only one in my college taking it, so there is nobody else to stress about it with!  I can’t stand it when you come out of exams and then for the next month or two there are people reminding you (often unintentionally!) of the detail you missed in question 4b!

There is also the fact that I’ve just spent the weekend with 5th year Cambridge medics and vets who all say that they stressed far too much about it, and that there is a lot more to your application than just your BMAT score, so stress not… (although a couple of them got two of the highest scores in the country… so um, ok, don’t stress!!)

Either way, there is nothing I can do about it now, so I will head on into college tomorrow, cool, calm and collected… wish me luck and I’ll let you know! 8)

BMAT II

Sounds like a cheap movie, doesn’t it?!

Anyway, I have absolutely no idea how it went – it’s so difficult to tell with that kind of test.  Some of it was do-able, some of it was complete guesswork, but that’s the nature of the exam anyway.  Well, there’s nothing I can do about it now, apart from put it to the back of my mind until 1st December when results come out!

BMAT

Eeek, BMAT tomorrow (that’s BioMedical Admissions Test in case you were wondering).  I will let you know how it goes!

Had a great week last week at the equine vets – was such a nice practice to work in and once I’d demonstrated that I was competent and keen I was allowed to get practically involved.  It was actually quite a quiet week for them, which was a shame, but when there weren’t horsey things happening I could get involved with the small animal ops which was great.  Saw some interesting things (including x-rays of zoo patients!), and got some great advice from some of the vets there.  I was also feeling distinctly proud of myself when I got the diagnosis right on a canine abdominal x-ray.  I love diagnostic imaging, I find it really interesting and would quite like to do some sort of specialisation in it at some stage (but first things first, let’s concentrate on getting into vet school and finding the funding!).

As for tomorrow… wish me luck!
